Organizational Scope:


The Telecommunication Technician coordinates the phones, phone lines and Internet services for the hotel guests and staff; and demonstrates a thorough understanding of the capabilities and features of the telephone, fax, Internet connections and network.

Basic Purpose


The Telecommunication Technician proactively maintains all related Telecommunications requirements in guest's rooms as well as in meeting rooms and in response to all telecommunications requests.

Essential Functions



  1. Provides hands-on assistance for all telecommunications issues in the hotel.

  2. Troubleshoots all phone lines, phone equipment and identifies all related service issues.

  3. Troubleshoots and services all Internet connections, DSL, wiring, jacks as well as guest faxes.

  4. Installs, moves and modifies telecommunications and related equipment in the meeting rooms and banquet areas.

  5. Maintain the hotel network connection up to the outlet.

  6. Complete all Telecom related trouble tickets in HotSos




  1. Knowledge of telephone equipment and troubleshooting skills (phone lines and phones) required.

  2. Knowledge and troubleshooting skills in network cabling technologies, voice and data (CAT3, CAT5 and CAT5e) required.

  3. Basic knowledge and troubleshooting skills in Telecom WAN and LAN (ISDN, SDSL, T1, Hubs, Switches) a plus.

  4. Skills with punch down blocks and cross connecting (66 block, 110 block, BIX block, etc....) required.

  5. Basic PC Knowledge (Windows Operating Systems) and troubleshooting skills, particularly with TCP/IP and Internet, Mac experience helpful.

  6. Knowledge of basic fax machine operation and ability to troubleshoot in room fax problems.

  7. Fulfill banquet telecommunications requests.

  8. Respond to requests from the Telecommunication Manager.


Preferred Education:


Two years of College or equivalent educations/experience


Preferred Experience:


One year of experience working with phone system


One year of experience with internet and networking


Hotel information systems


Meridian systems


Xeta systems


Preferred Skills and Abilities:


Prior luxury hotel experience preferred


Excellent interpersonal skills
